I drive trucks for a living. Years ago, the Thomas Guide was a required tool that one needed in their arsenal when making deliveries both short and far. Nowadays, many of us have evolved with technology. Let's get real, GPS has made it a lot easier and a lot more convenient. However, there are times when one will have no reception, a dead battery or may not even have a phone on them when they really need it. Even if all is working, sometimes the application's map data may not reflect the reality. In these times, a Thomas Guide will always save the day. I keep one in the back of my truck in the event that these situations occur, and trust me, they have. I urge everyone, especially the young, to learn how to use a Thomas Guide. If you can learn how to navigate with it, you will have no trouble getting around.Don't place your trust completely in technology. Always have a backup.

I'm an old school fan of Thomas Guides - sometimes it's just nice to see the big picture. However, this guide is not as advertised. The description says, "Full coverage of over 400 cities and communities including Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Glendale, Irvine, Lancaster, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Mission Viejo, Pasadena, Pomona, Santa Ana, and Santa Clarita."However, the guide I received does not have Santa Ana, Mission Viejo, Costa Mesa..........it's like they left of out 3/4 of Orange County. Also no Newport Beach, Irvine, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Beach, Lake Forest, Huntington Beach, Anaheim, Orange.......................

I can't BELIEVE how many 5-star reviews this edition has. The accuracy and usability of this edition are far, far below earlier editions. I have the LA County edition from 2009, and before that I think from 2005, and I was shocked and heartbroken by what I saw in this edition.The obvious thing is that a map needs to be ACCURATE, and this one isn't. This edition shows freeway onramps that don't exist, it's missing onramps that DO exist, it shows streets going through or connecting when they actually DON'T, it shows streets not going through when they actually DO, the Orange Line extension (which opened 3 years before this edition came out) is completely missing, and on and on. The fact that the word "Peninsula" is misspelled on the front cover (!) pretty much sums up how much attention to detail they put into this edition.A map should also be easy to use, but this one is definitely not. This map doesn't have any curved lines -- curved streets are shown as jagged and sharp. I don't know why. Gated and restricted roads aren't specially marked. Freeways don't stand out because they're the same thickness as all the other streets. Street names are tiny. Transit lines (especially the Orange and Gold Lines) are almost impossible to see. Streets that actually pass over or under each other are shown as intersecting at grade. And on and on.It's really so sad to see what's happened to the Thomas Guide, and how little care was put into this latest edition. If you've never seen how great a real Thomas Guide can be, maybe you won't mind this edition. But for me personally, I'm keeping my old Thomas Guide and probably throwing this one in the trash.

I know were in a digital age but they should never stop making these. I'm an appraiser and have been using the Thomas guide for over 30 years in naming my files so it's easy to locate other reports I might be able to use as a template for a new assignment. The local MLS systems have retired the Thomas Guide filed but FNMA reports still require map reference. I was freaking out for a while because I had to do a whole new naming convention for my files and it took twice as long to locate a template. It dawned on me that maybe there were still Thomas Guides available on Amazon and thank god there are. My efficiency has increased again and stress levels has been significantly reduced!!!!

In this world of GPS, who uses paper maps anymore? People like me, that's who! (Maybe people like you, too!) I'm fed up with getting false and bum steers from my GPS! Why does the GPS always seem to choose the most roundabout rout it can think of, anyway? It's a conspiracy! And, have you ever tried to make sense of the world by looking at it through a paper towel tube? Well, those tiny screens on your phone of dedicated GPS units are a lot like that--only ten times worse! I need to see a map of the entire area, not just a block at a time. Only a paper map can do that! Enter Thomas Brothers Maps. Or, should I say, Rand McNally/Thomas Brothers. Back in the day (before most of you young whipper-snappers were born) using a Thomas Brothers book was how we navigated. I'm disappointed that they've quit making new Thomas Brothers maps, and now we have to rely on trying to get the most recent ones from the archives. But it's still a dang sight better than "fumbling through the dark" of using GPS! New technology isn't always the best technology! I will always still rely on GPS as my "first line of defense," but I'm much happier having good ol' low-tech Thomas Brothers to supplement it. My advice to anyone else who is like me--Get this while they are still available!

Google maps just does not do justice to this 90 mile wide county that is Los Angeles.It's a fat heavy spiral bound book but it's a big, big city.The one weakness is, it should have a one page freeway map somewhere. Bad that the spiral splits the two page freeway map in the most important intersections.

Brought back a lot of memories. Glad my grandpa fought me how to use a map. Good quality pretty rough on it gets thrown around my vehicle and it is still in good shape. Quality made product

Thomas Guides were the way to navigate the roads before Google Maps.I always keep this copy in my car because you never know when your phone may run out of batteries of not have service. This guide has always been easy to navigate and is a good resource to learn to use in case there is a natural disaster and you need to find a route.I kept my last one for over 10 years so I'll probably do the same with this. When used often, the pages start to wear down and it's easy to stain and get the pages wet but I would still highly recommend a copy for every car.
