This is the complete five book boxed set about the people who spend time in the Rosebud Boarding House run by Miss Dolores O'Hanlon and turn their lives around in the process. All are welcome as long as they follow her rules. You’ll love these great stories! The set includes: Hidden Courage, A Changed Man, The Gift of Love, A Second Chance, and Silent Secrets. Below are two reviews to give you an idea of what you’ll find in this set!*** Reviewing HIDDEN COURAGE - BOOK 1 ***Stanley Winthorpe was nervously interviewing for an accounting job out West. Mr. Banks seemed unimpressed with him, but because he needed an accountant, he gave Stanley the job at the bank in Briarwood, Nevada, on a trial basis. Despite his dreams of living in the wild West, Stanley knew he was not the adventurous sort. He would be the first to run if trouble broke out, and he tended to avoid controversy whenever possible.Sophia Lopez was on the run, seeking out a hiding place until the men chasing after her gave up the search. Her parents had died of Scarlet Fever long ago and she had no other option but to live on the streets of New York City. She became a very clever con artist and thief in order to survive. When it was safe, she left her hiding place and spotted the stagecoach. She was able to use the last of her money to buy a ticket to Nevada and from there would continue to Texas, then Mexico -- after she sold the expensive jewelry she had stolen.Sophia went to the bank to sell the stolen jewelry. Stanley told her if it met certain criteria, the bank could purchase it. She explained it was a family heirloom. He finally agreed that the bank would purchase it. Will buying this item come back to hurt Stanley? Will he be able to withstand the gossip of the small town? Is anyone caring enough to help him when he loses his job and is unsure of his future?*** Reviewing A CHANGED MAN - BOOK 2 ***Jack Hicks spread his cards across the table and reached for the winnings he had just gained with his Royal Flush. However, one man stabbed a knife in the center of the table; another stood and put his hands on his guns. With Jack’s reputation, they didn’t know how, but they were sure he cheated. The others also grabbed their guns, so Jack flipped the table and moved out of the way. Chaos erupted! Jack slipped to the floor and filled his money pouch with as much as he could gather, then quietly walked out while the fighting raged on. Stealing a horse, he outran his pursuers and got away.Having been grazed by a bullet, he decided to stop in Briarwood to rest and heal. Jack walked into the General Store and read an ad about the Rosebud Boarding House. That was just what he needed so he could stay out of sight while he recovered. He walked over and paid a month’s rent for his room.Annabelle Baker heard her father calling for her and jumped down from the tree where she had been reading. He was already on his way to being drunk and it was still morning. He was sending her to town for more whiskey, and she knew he’d get meaner as he drank. She stopped at the General Store and asked Mr. Cloone for a pint of whiskey. He seemed to know what was going on in her life and had sympathy. He was the closest she had to a friend – and was the only one she had.Jack watched the saloon across the street and wanted so much to play cards. He knew Miss Dolores would not be happy with that, but he couldn’t stop himself. She greeted him and asked where he was going, so he told her for a walk, then had to go elsewhere so she wouldn’t catch him in a lie. He headed to the General Store and saw the most beautiful girl! He watched her as she tried to remain inconspicuous as she walked slowly down the street.Annabelle had her precious book ripped from her hands by her angry father. As she cried and begged him not to, he tore out page by page, threw them on the ground and mashed them with his muddy boot. Then he told her to go to town and buy him more whiskey! Jack was exiting from the card game as she walked past and he almost knocked her over. She brushed past him, but Jack felt a connection with her. When he returned to the boarding house, he asked Dolores if she knew such a woman and was told that it was Annabelle he described. She also asked him where he had been going, and he guiltily confessed to his gambling. Surprisingly, she insisted he stop and obey her rules – and he agreed to do so. She assured him he could do this, especially with the new interest he seemed to be developing in a certain lady. Was his life about to change? He respected Dolores and was willing to honor her wishes. And there was something special about the young lady – would he pursue that possibility? Or would his past catch up to him and force him to flee again? These are such well-written books and hold the reader’s attention. The characters are very realistically portrayed and the reader can feel for them as they face difficult decisions for survival. You will love how all of these books let the reader glimpse the struggles of the characters as they to find a future for themselves.
I loved this series! The blurb was so appealing I had to buy it. And it didn’t disappoint!Ms Dolores has a boarding house in her childhood home in Nevada. She’s a kind soul who wants to help people in need, as long as they abide by her rules. She was a great character, I loved her spunk and wisdom! This is a book about five men and their story out of trouble, struggles, until their happily ever after.I totally loved these stories. They are lighthearted, with sweet and clean romance, adventure, and humor. And endearing and relatable characters.A delightful read I truly recommend!
The Boarding House Misfits by Annie Booneis delightful Box Set. Each book could stand alone with the lone character that carries over is the owner of the boarding house. All of the characters are well written. The plots are enjoyable. The HEA is delightfully worded. A fantastic set set for anyone looking for a clean western historical.
this book contains five stories my copy has only 4 the "a changed man" and "a second chance" are the same......I checked the single titles contained and "a changed man" is not in my copy why??
Enjoyed all the stories. More fantasy than reality but, all with nice plots and happy endings. I do so love my happy endings and I love it when their faith in God is restored.
My download had book #2 the same as book #4. I did enjoy the short but clean books. Because of the duplication, I am only giving 4 stars.
Happened too fast-not even believable
This is a very enjoyable collection based on Dolores O'Hanlon and and her boarding house, Rosebud. Each story is about a new person that she has welcomed into her boarding house, which also happens to be her childhood home, in Briarwood, Nevada. There is a couple involved with each book and one of them will utilize the Rosebud at some point. Dolores is not only the town match- maker, she is also full of the Holy Spirit and will offer sage advice to these couples for as long as possible. Just quick, easy, very Christian-based, and enjoyable novellas. I would recommend these books.Vicki from Wyoming
