First, I am a huge Sanderson fan. Most of his books and series mesmerize me and I can't put them down. I had just finished (not) the Oathbringer series and was ravenous for more Sanderson. I saw the Reckoners... wow an entire trilogy I had not read.I guess this series was targeted at the teen market, which is OK. The books reads like a TV show series, with super heroes and super villains. Ever since the appearance of Calamity, a red comet in the sky, "Epics" are being created. There are just random people are infected with super powers, which inevitably turn them into evil overlords. The Reckoners are a human strike team out to defeat them. Each Epic has a "weakness" that can be exploited by the Reckoners to kill them off.That's about it. They meet many Epics and kill them. Over and over. There is a somewhat deep under-current of "What is Calamity?" and "How did this happen?"... but nothing is answered until the last book I felt the ending and Calamity's origin was a bit cliche.Yes, I did have a lot of fun with the Reckoners, but after coming down from Sanderson's high fantasy I experienced a bit of a let down. But you should read it! It goes very quickly and is not-stop action. Maybe it will be animated series someday.

Every Brandon Sanderson work is a masterpiece. That being said, this isn't his best work, nor is it his worst. Like all his books, this was full of twists and surprises, clever banter, and engaging action. I couldn't put it down and enjoyed every minute, even though it didn't quite have the same magical polish as Mistborn or Stormlight Archives.Also, note that this set is missing his novella Mitosis which occurs between the first and second book. I recommend grabbing that as well to read where it belongs, however, that novella isn't vital to the story nor is it quite as good as the rest of this series. But without it, the beginning of the second book won't feel quite as smooth.

My kids love these books! My kids are ages 21-28. One of them said that he wishes he could un-read them because he loved them so much!! Sanderson's other series are now keeping their attention. They say they are even better than this series. We ended up giving them to nieces, nephews and friends who are younger and the response was the same, excellent!!

Excellent series!!! My 20 something son wanted something to read during the Christmas break between college semesters. He started the first book and could hardly put it down. The series moves at a quick pace. It is interesting for teens, young adults, and adults. I enjoyed the series myself.

There's no getting around it. This is essentially X-Men if X-Men were all driven evil. There's some interesting differences but ultimately it comes down to people have super powers and everyone is evil and a group of ordinary people's struggle to redeem humanity.

This series grabs you right away and doesn't let go. Slimmer tale than some of Sanderson's best, but definitely deserving of a place alongside his great works like Mistborn and Stormlight.

Another great Brandon Sanderson trilogy. I almost stopped part of the way through the 1st book, but glad I continued. Brandon has a talent for coming up with brand new worlds and situations in which he can develop characters of every caliber. Worth the read.
